John Di Bartolo – Tribute

Category: Latest News

With pleasure we are able to reflect on the wonderful playing career of Johnny Di Bartolo, Blacktown first grade player number 127.

In full flight Johnny struck fear into opposition teams across the competition and can best described as dominant, destructive and game changing. As an opening batsman Johnny set the tone early in each innings, grabbing the momentum and ascendency for his side, that more often than not proved decisive in the final result.

In the twilight years of Johnny’s first grade career, we were fortunate to have his leadership, experience, and guidance, developing the next generation of aspiring cricketers at the Blacktown Warriors. Johnny has been instrumental in shifting the momentum for the club and played a huge role in guiding the 1st Grade side to T20 Finals series appearances in 2021/22, 2022/23, and one day finals appearance in 2022/23. During this time young players have blossomed into state and international underage players, and NSW 2nd Xl representatives, their success is a testament to the commitment and example set both on and off the field by Johnny.

On the field Johnny is the first to put his hand-up to take on any challenge and always leads from the front. I personally could not have asked for a better teammate, and have thoroughly enjoyed every challenge and success achieved alongside Johnny.

More importantly we have been fortunate to enjoy the Johnny’s off field and behind the scenes exploits where he is a fiercely loyal and genuinely caring human being. His mentorship and guidance of the youngsters both in cricket and in life is truly valuable for the Warriors. We look forward to continuing Johnny’s momentum and celebrate some more finals successes with him in the coming season.

On behalf of the Blacktown Warriors, I wish Johnny all the very best for the future.

Matt Day
